Derek Ryan is hoping to repeat Avicii’s number one single success with “Wake Me Up”, by turning it into a country hit. Following an impromptu performance, after a two hour gig in Tyrone last Saturday, the video of Derek singing the song on YouTube spread on social media sites over the weekend, and received over 30,000 views within the first few days of being uploaded. The original single from Avicii has peaked at number one in 20 countries worldwide and is predicted to become the fastest selling single of 2013. It has been called the “summer anthem” of 2013. After the reaction received from his acoustic performance, Derek decided to record his version of the song, and release it as a single. The County Carlow country star has now released Wake Me Up as a sampler track from his upcoming album “100 Numbers”, which is to be released this autumn.
Derek has released his song this week to coincide with the most talked about DJ in the world’s gig at Tennent’s Vital. Avicii headlined the last day of the festival at Boucher Road Playing Fields in Belfast and performed the number one single to a crowd of thousands. Derek’s country cover of the song is expected to have crowds across the country on their feet for the remainder of this year.
Derek Ryan’s ‘Wake Me Up’ is on release from Sharpe Music or via iTunes download.
