Irish Country Singer Derek Ryan has landed his biggest career achievement to-date with news this morning that his album ‘The Simple Things’ has gone straight to the top of the Irish album chart after one week on release, holding off international stars such as Ed Sheeran, Paolo Nutini and Kate Bush from the coveted number one slot.

Earlier in the week he had already become number one in the Irish download chart and number one in the UK country chart as well as reaching the top forty in the general UK download chart.

‘The Simple Things’ is his fifth studio album which includes five of his own original songs and includes his biggest hit single ‘Hold On To Your’ featuring Sharon Shannon.

Speaking of the news this morning from his County Carlow home, Derek said he is elated and wished to thank the thousands of fans who have supported his career over this past three years.

“Every artist wishes to top the charts and when that phone call came this morning from my record label with confirmation, I was thrilled and immediately shared the news with my family.”

Derek added that he may not be able to fully celebrate the news this weekend due to touring commitments but insists that next week when he lands in Australia on a two week tour he will toast the success.

Raymond Stewart from Sharpe Music congratulated Derek on his achievement and said it was only a matter of time before he became number one.  Raymond also confirmed that the album was one of the fastest selling cds his label has released and believes it will be a huge seller at Christmas.

Derek will be signing copies of the cd at Stewart’s Music Shop, Dungannon tomorrow Saturday 6th September at 3.30 p.m.

‘The Simple Things’ is a fifteen track album available through Sharpe Music and via iTunes download.  Further information is available at derekryanmusic.com
