Earlier this week Derek was honoured to be awarded with “Album of The Year” for his fantastic fourth album, Country Soul. (Above, Derek is presented with his award by Noel Dunne – Irish Country Sound)
The Hodson Bay Hotel, Athlone was filled with Irish Country artists on Monday evening, along with 600 fans for the Irish Country Sound & Farmers Journal Awards. The stars performed and entertained the crowds during the ceremony, and a total of 22 acts were awarded.
Editor of Irish Country Living Mairead Lavery would like to thank all the country stars and fans who made the awards such a success.
“It was a super night. My only regret is that we didn’t have enough tickets to meet the demand,” she said.
“Country Soul” was released in October 2013, went straight into the Irish Charts, and received great praise from fans and media alike. Derek has really outdone himself on this album. The album includes old country favourites, current chart covers and of course, Derek’s original songs which proves his talent and passion for songwriting.
After winning the award, Derek took to twitter to express his gratitude, “Very proud and humbled to receive ALBUM OF THE YEAR for my album #countrysoul at the Farmers Journal awards tonight! Fantastic night!” Followed by a picture of his performance on the night.
Derek’s albums just keep getting better, including his LIVE CD, The Entertainer, which is on release Friday 14th March.
